Catfish Aquarium and Fish Care

Wednesday 21 May 2008 @ 3:32 am

Catfish include the body of Siluridae, which is actually off springs of the Catfish. The European catfish, including the naked skinned fish is kin to the Asiatic group. The translucent layers of skin makes the Siluridae group one of the less desired aquarium fish. Next to the Siluridae is the group of Glass Catfish, which are listed under the Kryptopterus Bicirrhis group. The fish derived from the Greater Sunda Islands, as well as from the lands of India. This group of catfish grow 3 ?inches in size, and appear as powerfully pressed translucent fish with glass-like bodies. The anal fins have an extended baseline. The upper jaw line has a pair of whiskers, otherwise known as barbel.

The Glass Catfish are best suited with its own kin. The fish tends to stand off into the background, lurking the tank. Catfish will eat from top layers of the water, and will feast on living foods. This particular fish has not been bred while in captivity, and its breed does not have a particular or preferred water condition. Kin to the Glass Catfish is the Mockokidae. Mockokidae derive from African waters. The naked Mockokidae, as well as many other catfish are helpful fish, since these fish feed off biochemicals, which makes these fish scavengers.

The fish will eat other dead fish, as well as decomposed macrobiotic bodies. In addition, catfish are responsible for maintaining tank photosynthetic organisms, known as algae.

Catfish are composed of bones, rather than cartilages. As well, catfish have distinctive fins, which differ from that of the flesh-like fins that include bones. Catfish in summary are catfish do not have scales, yet the fish have whiskers. Catfish whiskers are sensitive to the touch, which includes smell and taste. Catfish is listed in the Siluriformes, Osteichthyidae, and the Acetinopterygii categories.

The upside down Catfish listed in the Synodontis Nigriventris category comes from the lands of Belgian Congo. This particular species grows to 2 inches in size. The body of this fish is shaped like that of the Corydoras group. The lower section of the body located at the front has a dark shade, which is offset or reversed by lighter colors. This fish is a great choice of communal tank habitats. The catfish will help keep your tank clean as well, since he feeds off photosynthetic organisms, as well as live bait. The food is often extracted from leaves beneath the surface. Synodontis Nigriventris species did not have preferences in water condition. Malapteruridae is the kin to the Synodontis Nigriventris.

Electric Catfish come from the group of Malapterurus Electricus. The catfish grows 10 feet in natural waters, yet is only two feet in aquarium water. This catfish is found in various rivers and lakes around the Western and central areas of Africa. Electric Catfish has a body type shaped like a cylinder. The fish does not have dorsal fin, yet it makes up for the loss with hefty fatty adipose fin. Electric Catfish has electrical organs, which demands that this fish is placed in isolated interment. Like the electric eel, this catfish will produce a disturbing shock to those coming close. The shock however is less severe than that of the electric eel, yet more powerful than the Mormyridae shock.

How does this fish feed? The electric catfish will eat meats, worms, and other fish smaller than his size, since he is an insatiable nighttime diner.

What is the Electric Catfishes?preferred water condition? The catfish could care less about water conditions, as long as he has water and plenty of food.

Pediatric Wheelchair Considerations

Monday 19 May 2008 @ 11:02 pm

Children with disabilities needn’t miss out on all activities of childhood if you properly choose the right type of pediatric wheelchair so their mobility is enhanced. There are all sorts of variables to take into considerations when it comes to picking out the right chair. One such consideration is transportation. So while an electric power chair is popular among kids and adults alike, a more lightweight wheelchair might be more easily transportable.

Since you will be maneuvering your child around your home and transferring him from wheelchair to chair you would probably want a lightweight wheelchair for that purpose. Choose one with detachable hardware so you can get the wheelchair as close to the chair as possible to save on back strain. Also consider which type of wheelchair would be best suited for school and any other activities your child participates in. Of course the most important consideration is that you choose a wheelchair that meets with the doctor’s specifications.

You can opt to purchase a wheelchair that is the size of your child and then buy a larger chair as your child grows. Or you can buy a wheelchair that grows with your child. Certain types of pediatric wheelchairs are built to expand in size to accommodate increased bulk and weight by altering a cross balance on the bottom of the chair. The front frames for the legs can be lengthened as your child’s legs grow longer. A wheel chair such as this can last for 10 years or longer making them a wise investment.

Also, you want your child to be comfortable. Select cushions that are not overly soft or rough so your child will be comfortable sitting for long periods of time. A cushion that is too thick will be uncomfortable and one that is too thin will not provide enough support. Be sure to choose a pediatric wheelchair with a footrest that is low enough so that it allows the seat to be in contact with the entire thigh.

Other considerations that are not as important are the style and color of the wheelchair. Although, these options might mean more to your child than they do to you. There is no need to settle for a depressing gray or brown metal framed chair. Pediatric wheelchairs can be purchased in lively colors such as red, blue, or pink and decorated with stickers and painted flowers so they are more appealing to children.

You can see that there are many things to consider when picking out a pediatric wheelchair. Do not rely on price alone. Pricier does not necessarily mean better. You want a wheelchair that is comfortable and provides proper support. It should be easily maneuverable to make things easier on both of you. Remember that you can buy your cushions separately to further customize your pediatric wheelchair.

Controlling The Cost Of Snowboarding

Monday 19 May 2008 @ 4:59 am

Not all the best things in life are free. This is true if you consider snowboarding as one of the best things in your life. Getting into the sport entails training, proper equipment and of course the snowboard! So you better save up before you hit the slopes.

To get you started, snowboarding lessons are reasonably priced at well under $100. Rates can even go lower if you ask around and compare pricing. All you will need to do is to contact your nearby ski slope to get the rates that they are currently offering.

The standard beginner’s snowboarding package is usually set up as a block of ten lessons. Each lesson would generally cost you around $10 so that would be $100 in total. Although beginners who want to take the shorter route to hitting the slopes could opt to take the crash course of only three sessions. It is definitely cheaper and at the end of the short course, you will surely have gained a lot more knowledge and confidence to barrel your way down the icy mountain slopes.

Taking group snowboarding lessons is another option that you can take to lessen the financial blow of your future sport. In group lessons, a larger base of students will generally offset the price since the time and effort of the snowboarding instructor will be distributed among the group. The chance to take up the sport with other enthusiasts will yield satisfactory results especially when you start making friends during your time training on the mountain slopes. Snowboarding is definitely much more fun when you can share it with friends and other enthusiastic snowboarders to be.

With snowboarding lessons now covered, the next thing to deal with is the equipment and the necessary gear that will ensure your safety and enjoyment while you are sliding on the ice. You need not rush into acquiring top of the line equipment outright. You may choose to rent the basic equipment first while you are still getting lessons and training. This way there will be no regrets on your end should you decide to pullout from your snowboarding dream.

Although it is advisable to get personalized gear to get the right equipment size and fit for safety purposes, snowboarding spots usually have pro shops that allow you to choose the type and specifications that will best cater to your snowboarding style and your body weight and height.

The snowboard is of course the most important prerequisite for the sport. There are various types to choose from depending on the purpose and the size of the board that you will need. To ensure that you will buy a board that will fit your needs, it boils down to the snowboarding style that you will adapt. Again it is wise not to rush into your snowboard purchase unless you are sure of how you will progress during your boarding lessons.

This only goes to show that getting started in your snowboarding hobby is really not as expensive as it seems. Snowboarding promises to offer fun and lots of excitement regardless of age or gender where you can meet new friends along the way. It is well worth the expense required to get started.

In the course of planning to move, there are a lot of hard decisions to make and preparations to do. If you have not organized your move well, you will be faced with headaches that will take a long time to overcome.

It would help a lot if you have your family with you to help you in the process of planning and organization. This way, you will not carry the burdens alone. You will have persons to depend on and to assure you that everything will turn out great.

At first, you will feel torn between moving overseas and just staying where you are right now. But if you think of all the benefits your move can give you, all your doubts will eventually go away. The only thing that will matter to you is getting everyone and everything prepared for that much needed new environment.

To help make your move a little bit easier, below are some things that you need to consider. These things will more or less minimize the headaches that you will encounter when moving overseas.

  1. Learn everything there is to know about the place you will move into.

By having first-hand knowledge about the place or country you will move into, you and your family will be prepared for what is in store for you. This will also ensure that you will not be surprised at the type of surrounding and culture that you will face.

The best place to start is your local library. There are a lot of books and reading materials there that will give you basic and comprehensive idea about different locations. Moreover, you can look at photographs of important landmarks that the place is known for.

The internet is also another source of gathering information about certain places. The good thing about online resources is that they are updated frequently. You can find fresh information from the internet that will satisfy your curiosity and help in your decision making process.

In your reading, do not forget to note where embassies and other important places are located. Familiarize yourself with business establishments that you may have a need of once you get there.

  1. Packing your stuff.

When packing your things, keep in mind that the main purpose behind it is to have your belongings arrive safely in your destination. If you are not capable of making this work, you can enlist the services of professional movers to do them for you.

These people are aware of the standards that are set for every destination. They can advice you on how best to secure all your belongings and how best to ship them to that certain location.

Do away with furniture that you will not need. You can always buy new ones in your new home. Leave them with your relatives. Not only can you save on the shipping expenses, you will also make other people happy by leaving some part of you behind.

Make A Newborn Time Capsule

Sunday 18 May 2008 @ 3:39 am

When your newborn finally arrives, your life will be changed forever. It is a moment you will remember always. A great way to commemorate this life changing event is by making a time capsule so you can preserve the moment in time and have a snapshot of that period in history to share with your child when he is older.

Making a time capsule for your newborn is not hard to do, you just need to gather together items which reflect the events occurring around the time of his birth.

Newspapers are a logical choice to add to your time capsule. Local papers will provide a view of what was going on in his community the day that he was born and the national papers will tell what was happening on the national level. These newspapers will take you back in time when you and your grown newborn open your time capsule later on.

You can also put stamps and money in your time capsule. Put in one each of the coin denominations and small bills and also include a variety of stamps. In addition, you could make a list of prices for various goods such as groceries, gas and clothes.

You can add a personal touch to the time capsule by including a picture of your newborn along with the outfit he wore home from the hospital. A nice touch would be to write your newborn a letter welcoming him to your family, telling him how much you love him and what your hopes are for his future.

There are no set rules for what to add to your newborn’s time capsule. You can put anything in it that you think you would like to share with your child when he gets older. You can even customize the capsule itself in whatever way you choose. You can actually buy time capsules pre-made for just that purpose. You can also make your own, and as long as you don’t intend on burying it in the back yard it can be made from a simple shoe box that you have decorated. Seal the box and inscribe upon it the date it is to be opened, such as on your child’s eighteenth birthday.

Take special precautions with your time capsule so it will survive the years. Traditionally, time capsules are often buried. If you choose to do that and make a ceremony out of digging it up, make sure you choose a container that will seal out moisture and will not break down. Even if you store your time capsule indoors you will want to keep it protected from humidity and pests such as moths and silverfish.

When the day arrives for you and your child to open the time capsule together it will be a very special moment for the two of you that you can cherish forever. You will be glad you took the time to make the time capsule when your child was just a newborn.

Sail the Caribbean Seas on a Trinidad Cruise

Thursday 15 May 2008 @ 3:49 am

Hop aboard one of the many Trinidad cruises and set sail along the Caribbean seas. Trinidad cruises offer you another view of this mesmerizing island, and the voyage is guaranteed to be as enchanting as the many ports of call.

The island’s southern part is at a distance of seven miles from Venezuela, making it one of the least frequented ports of call for any of Trinidad cruises. The other ports that are strewn around the Caribbean are more popular destinations. To keep up with the ever-increasing tourists that visit Trinidad more and more ships have started plying cruises. Increasing competition between the different cruise companies mean each one has lots of exciting offers and interesting agendas. Many cruises dock at the capital city, Port of Spain, where tourists can find lots of modern amenities and commercial establishments as well as financial institutions.

Windjammer and Windstar Cruises, Seabourn Cruises, Saga Cruises, Princess Cruises, Peter Deilmann Cruises, Ocean Village Cruises, Holland America and Fred Olsen Cruises are just some of the companies offering Trinidad cruises. Each one of these cruise companies has something different to offer, giving you a wide selection of cruises to choose from. The sizes of ships and the passenger capacities are different as well as their choice of itineraries and on-board entertainment. The more exclusive cruises offer smaller-sized vessels and substantial staff on board to cater to just a few individuals. Larger ships are capable of accommodating thousands of cruise-goers.

If you plan on going on a Trinidad cruise, before you put down the money for your ticket you should take into consideration the ship’s size and also the exclusivity that it offers. Decide whether you want to join thousands of other holiday-makers on a larger ship, or whether you’d like the privacy that smaller vessels offer. Also look into the ratio of the people on board to the staff. If there is too few staff to look after a considerable amount of people, you can expect that the service will not be of high quality.

Besides checking out the size of the vessel and its passenger capacity, you should also ask the booking company about the type of voyage you can expect and how much it would cost you. Some cruse companies offer specialty packages. These are aimed at groups of passengers who have certain requirements and have a specific purpose to taking the cruise. You should take a good look at the itinerary so you know which ports the ship will be docking at during your cruise. This way, before going you can attempt to learn some more of the ports that you will be visiting and when you land there you have a pretty good idea of what you want to see or do at that port.

Don’t even consider staying aboard the vessel when it has docked at a port. It’s boring and an utter waste of time and opportunity. Some of the islands surrounding Trinidad are breathtakingly impressive and you should make the most of your cruise and discover the beauty of the place.
